Robert Webster

I’ve had an interest in mid-century design and model building since I was a pre-teen. Later, I earned a degree in Interior Design from University of California, Davis. After a career designing office space and in facilities management for various departments in state government, I retired to the Mecca of Mid-Century Modern Design that is Palm Springs.

Towards the end of my work life, I picked up my pencils and sketch pads and started drawing again. Along the way, I started writing a blog which included imagery of all types: my sketches, manipulated digital photographs of people, cars and architecture. I figured I would continue that into retirement, but the desert universe had other ideas.

Two years ago at the urging of my wife, I created some mid-century model houses using mat board for a holiday village from patterns offered on-line by Retro Renovation. The feedback I received after posting images of them on my personal Instagram page was very positive. Later, using the scraps of mat board, I created some simple facades of classic designs by popular desert modernists and MidModFacades was born!

Current work includes the facades, a greeting card series, and limited designs of model homes based on some previously built for a local Palm Springs design store. More ideas are always percolating.
